Island Grove Park, Abington–New Notable Land Record

The Plymouth County Registry of Deeds has a new addition to its Notable Land Records Collection.  Island Grove Park was the site of many pre-Civil war abolitionists’ meetings, led by William Lloyd Garrison and others.  Thousands of people traveled by train from Boston to hear these orators.  A monument recognizing those meetings now stands at the center of the park.

The westerly entrance, over the majestic Memorial Arch and Bridge, built in 1912 as part of Abington’s Bicentenniel Celebration, is a memorial honoring the service and sacrifices of  the Civil War soldiers and sailors from Abington.

For further information on this new entry or the many other notable and historical land records brought forward by citizens of the County of Plymouth, please go to the Notable Land Records Collection at the bottom right of this webpage.

We encourage further suggestions from Registry users and the general public.
